Money and Banks
Though Cambodian riel (KHR) is
the official currency, US dollars are in common use. Most
businesses, especially hotels, restaurants, airlines,
markets and souvenir shops set their prices in US dollars.
Change of less than one dollar is given in riel. Money
changers cluster around the markets and tend to give a
slightly better exchange rate than the banks. When accepting
money, inspect the bills. Marred riel is acceptable tender,
but the tiniest tear in a large US note renders it unusable
in Cambodia. |
Banks
Most banks are open from 8:00 to 16:00, Monday through Friday. Some
are also open Saturday mornings. Several are located along Street
114 between Monivong and Norodom Blvds. A few of the more popular

ATMs accept Visa and MasterCard. Many also accept Cirrus, Plus and

Credit Cards
Visa and MasterCard (MC) are the most
widely accepted credit cards. Local cards from ANZ Royal Bank (ANZ)
and the GoldDot card (GD) from ACLEDA Bank are both widely accepted.
Many businesses charge commission on credit card payment.
Travelers Checks
Travelers checks are accepted at most
banks, major hotels and restaurants and some money changers.
Cash Transfers
International cash transfers can be done
through Western Union and Moneygram. For domestic money transfer
